Years 11 & 12 – Defining Future Pathways

The Senior Years

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) & VCE – Vocational Major

The senior school offers a number of pathways to students to help them achieve their preferred goal when they complete their studies at Emerald.

  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
  • Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major (VCE-VM)
  • Vocational Education and Training Program (VET)
  • School Based Apprenticeship & Traineeship Program

Students at Emerald can study either VCE or VCE-VM in their final years. Students who have accelerated VCE subjects also have the opportunity to study University subjects during their final year. For more information about both of these programs, see the College website, and download the Senior School Handbook.

VCE

Students in the VCE Pathway study Maths and English classes at a Foundation, General or Enrichment level. Students then choose from a variety of Science, Health PE, Humanities, Arts and Technology electives to personalise their course. Students are also permitted to accelerate a VCE study*, continue with Japanese and with their Advance course.

VCE – Vocational Major

The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is a vocational and applied learning program within the VCE designed to be completed over a minimum of two years.

It prepares students to move into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, university (via non-ATAR pathways) or directly into the workforce.
