Who we are
Students leading, not following
Interact Club at Emerald Secondary College is a student-led leadership and service program built on connection, initiative, and real-world impact. Supported by our partnership with Rotary International, Interact empowers students to take ownership of meaningful projects that serve both our local and global communities.This isn’t a teacher-run club where students follow instructions. Our members design, lead, and deliver their own initiatives — from community service projects to school-wide events — developing the confidence and capability to lead in authentic contexts.
What we do
Leadership in practice
Interact students don’t just talk about leadership — they practise it. Working closely with the Student Connectedness Coordinator, students connect with Rotary to access real opportunities beyond the school gates.

Interact creates a space where students are known, heard, and valued. The impact shows up in how they carry themselves — in classrooms, in conversations, and in the way they approach challenges.
Students involved in Interact consistently demonstrate stronger engagement, improved confidence, and a deeper connection to their school community. Through this work, students build more than a resume — they build self-worth, social awareness, and a stronger sense of belonging. This is leadership with purpose, not just titles.

Interact operates through three student-led committees, giving every member a voice and a place to contribute. Each committee is student-run, with members taking ownership of planning, execution, and reflection.

SRC
The SRC at Emerald Secondary College plays an active role in the running of our school. Student Leader Representatives across all year levels assist with organising and running a range of events. We have College Captains, Vice Captains and Junior Captains who show positive leadership, inspiring our Year Level leaders to step up and become involved in events at the College. They represent the College on many occasions including Open Nights, Information Evenings and the local ANZAC Day services, etc.
Whole school assemblies are run by our SRC with their roles including introducing guests, informing the wider school community about upcoming events and involving students from all year levels. They approach this role with professionalism and confidence.
Members of the SRC attend training days such as the Vic SRC Regional Conference Day, where they represent Emerald and meet and work with students from across our region. These days involve discussions centred on the role of the SRC in schools and how they can be involved in the way schools run. Our student voice is an integral part of our planning and philosophy at Emerald.
Meetings are held to debate the merits of a range of charities and causes, with decisions made as to how they would like the money raised to be distributed.
Planning for events takes place late in each calendar year to further develop leadership opportunities at the College.
