Select Entry Accelerated Learning

Emerald Secondary College is an accredited SEAL School.

ESC is committed to providing academic excellence to all students. As part of this aim, the College has been continuing to grow and develop the Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program since its inception in 2008. This program provides a high-quality accelerated curriculum for a select group of students with high intellectual potential. The central aim of the SEAL program is to provide educational experiences of an appropriate type and quality for that group of children, identified through the selection procedures, as having exceptional academic ability. These students are capable of high academic performance and will benefit from an accelerated and enriched learning program.

The SEAL program provides:

  •  A faster paced curriculum with less repetition
  • Greater analysis of abstract, complex concepts
  • A higher level of investigative, problem solving and creative thinking skills
  •  An academically challenging learning environment

This exciting and unique learning environment will challenge students to achieve their full potential. A comprehensive curriculum has been designed to enrich, engage and develop higher order thinking skills. Students will also have the opportunity to accelerate VCE subjects providing them with the opportunity to increase their ATAR by completing more VCE studies.

Students will be intellectually challenged through an academic program tailored to their ability. The SEAL Coordinator and a team of supporting teachers will monitor academic progress to ensure that the curriculum caters to their specific learning needs. This is a highly stimulating and challenging program that is designed to give the maximum opportunity to students who possess enthusiasm and above average ability.
