BEST – Positive Education Classes

BEST is a subject developed by Emerald Secondary College. It is a research and evidence-based subject developed around the PERMAH model, an evidence-based wellbeing framework developed from Martin Seligman’s Positive Psychology, designed to foster flourishing and resilience.
BEST is timetabled for one hour a week for all students. Each term is underpinned with a different focus, complementing our school values and School Wide Positive Behaviour Support broad expectations. Our values of Respect, Resilience, Excellence and Harmony are key focus in these classes, designed to promote school connection and influence a positive culture.
The content varies per year level and point of need which varies from year to year. The vibrant curriculum is developed by the Learning Engagement team, supported by the Assistant Principal of Wellbeing and Engagement and the College Mental Health Practitioners.
Respectful Relationships is taught across all year levels, during the ‘Respect’ term.
