Student Leadership Program

The College has developed an extensive Student Leadership Program.  Students have had the opportunity to apply for many leadership positions in the school.  From home group captains to leaders of various programs and areas, students are given every opportunity to further themselves and assist their peers and the College generally in leadership roles.

Specific groups that students have been able to get involved include:

  • The Sustainability Group
  • The Student Representative Council (SRC)
  • Home Group Leaders as part of each Sub School
  • Leadership positions in areas such as Sport and The Arts
  • College Captains and Vice Captains

Home Group Leaders as part of their sub school have completed some fantastic work this year.  As an example, Home Group Leaders within the Junior School have had regular meetings with staff to discuss issues that directly relate to them and their peers.  On occasions, these issues were raised in other forums where they could be resolved.  It is to the credit of these Leaders that many of these issues around the College were dealt with because they were raised by these Leaders.  Leadership positions in areas such as Sport and The Arts were also made available.

The College called for expressions of interest in October this year from students moving into VCE next year to fill the many leadership positions that would have them representing the College, including for College Captains and Vice Captains.  The response was very pleasing with many students submitting applications.  After a rigorous interview process the following students have been appointed in 2008 to the positions listed below:

Environment / Sustainability Leader – Jacqui O’Leary
Information Technology Leader – Jaeger McConchie
Sports Leaders – Renee Bell and Brent Hartnell
Performing Arts Leaders – Michelle Imfeld and Trent Morison

We wish these students all the very best in their respective leadership roles.  The positions of College Captains and Vice Captains will be decided early next year.  Other positions such as Sub School Leaders, House Leaders, Home Group Leaders and membership of the SRC will also be decided early next in 2008.

It has been well publicised through out the 2007 that the College has made available for its students these leadership opportunities.  Students who taken on these roles have been awarded badges of office and undertaken a number of important tasks throughout the year.  Our nominated leaders have been able to further develop their organisational, time management, communication and team work skills by taking on these roles.  Their efforts are to be commended and we would hope that they, plus many other students, will strongly consider being a part of our Student Leadership program in 2008.
