SEAL

The College is thrilled to be offering the Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) in 2008 It will allow us to provide a high quality program for a select group of students with high intellectual potential.

It is exciting that we have been included in the small number of State Secondary Schools approved to offer the SEAL Program. We have met all the criteria specified by the Department of Education to be able to be included as a SEAL school. Gifted students in the Dandenong Ranges now have access to SEAL which enables them to complete Years 7 to 10 in only three years.

The SEAL program will provide:

  1. a faster paced curriculum with less repetition
  2. involve greater analysis of abstract, complex concepts
  3. develops high level investigative, problem solving and creative thinking skills
  4. fosters a learning environment which challenges students academically

The program specifically addresses the needs of students who qualify as gifted and talented. It is these students who are capable of high academic performance and will benefit from an accelerated and enriched learning program.

Selection and Testing

The selection processes are designed to identify students who would be suitable for this type of program. The selection process will involve:

  1. an aptitude test
  2. information from parents
  3. interviews with students
  4. information from teachers at the student’s primary school

This thorough selection process is usually undertaken during Semester One in preparation for the following year.  Any queries about this exciting program should be directed to the SEAL Co-ordinator, Mr Aaron Smith, at the College.
